Ucon Gustav Hoody

Yeah yeah, I know, summers around the corner. That doesn't mean you can't still be on the lookout for fly winter wear. Besides, some of you I'm sure may be in parts of the globe that's still cool enough for hoodies. In any event the Gustav  by Ucon is defiantly on my must have list for next winter.

M.I.A. Born Free Video

I heard the song a few days ago and blogged about it, now the official video release. This has got to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen, definitely NSFW though. Director by Romain Gavras pulls no punches, with this extremely graphic 9 min. short film.

I should tell you that the video is really violent and potentially disturbing to some, and not really what one might expect from the Sri Lankan party girl, well-documented family ties to the Tamil Tigers aside. But despite the content, it never feels gratuitous. If anything it's an artistic statement, check it out.

N.E.R.D. – Hot N Fun (feat. Nelly Furtado)

Speaking of back off of hiatus, N.E.R.D. gears up to drop their new effort which was originally slated to be called "Instant Gratification". After completely scraping 20 sum odd songs, siting they weren't saying enough, and they didn't have the right feeling. They Also changed the name to Nothing, no that's the name, "Nothing".

For your listening and viewing pleasures, I present a 2 for 1. Frist, Pharrell speaks on his daily life a bit, and brushes up against the subject of the new release and subsequent name change. The second, there first single "Hot n Fun" featuring Nelly Furtado. Looking forward to the release.

M.I.A. - Born Free

After a long hiatus, new mother and probably the hottest commodity out of Sri Lanka, M.I.A. is back with a new single. Born Free is crazy, an uptempo, bass heavy masterpiece. Dubbed the "Original Lady Gaga" M.I.A. was last seen, by me at least, on stage preforming a full 9 months pregnant and due.

In her absence, her label mate, the aforementioned Lady Gaga has been more than busy with her music, entrepreneurial ventures (the heart beat headphones) and gay rights activism. After M.I.A. called  her out publicly, it was time to put her money where her mouth was and drop some new stuff. This is from her upcoming album due out later this year.

Nike SB Dunk High “Skunks” 420 Release Window Display

Today is perhaps my favorite holiday next to Christmas, too bad it's not nationally recognized. So it's only fitting that my favorite brand of shoe drop a pair of limited edition kicks to commemorate to day and it's festivities. The Nike SB Dunk High “Skunks”   have been on the web for a few days now but when I came across this creative display by Maven

The Burlington, VT. retailer cleared out it's old window display and revamped it to resemble a grow room for nature's greatest plant. Aluminum line the back of the window, lamps hang from the ceiling cranked up extra bright to ad to the authenticity …and of course, the green Nike Sb Dunk High “Skunks”.They  hang from the  plants like the frosted treats that would naturally adorn a ripe and ready crop, blending  into the plant quite seamlessly. Check out the window display, and then check with your local retailers on the release that is set to happen at select stores. Happy 420.

Jean-Michel Basquiat x Reebok – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

In memory of  international art star, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Reebok has teamed up with the estate of the late artist once again to create the Spring/Summer '10 Jean-Michel Basquiat Pack. Basquiat started as a graffiti writer in New York, and the latest edition from Reebok takes inspiration from one of his often untitled works (Suite of Fourteen Drawings) circa 1981. Graham Thompson calls Basquiat, "the first painter of African descent to become an international art icon", with such works as "Untitled (History of the Black People)"  in 1983, and "Irony of Negro Policeman" (1981). The limited collection will include several Reebok staples – Omni Pump Lite, BB4600 Hi, and WMNS Pump Aerobic Lite Trainer Mid. Also, a matching matching graphic tee will go along with each pair. A combination of perforated leather, fabric and gum rubber sole, the Jean-Michel Basquiat x Reebok Omni Pump Lite is now available at select Reebok retailers.

Why I Wear What I Wear

Fashion is more than just pieces of cloth used to cover your nakedness, it can be a bold statement. A declaration of self, preference, and lifestyle. When I personally crack open my closet for the day's mission, it's like and event in itself. What mood am I in, what is on tap, hows the weather (gotta have fair weather kicks and rainy weather ones), these are just a few things to consider. Streetwear continues to gain in popularity, blossoming form pet projects in the minds and garages of a few creative individuals, into a growing worldwide pandemic. It transcends racial, ethnic, age, sex,  and class boundaries, perking the interests of many.
In this section, we want to hear from you. Why do you wear what you wear? What inspires  and draws you toward the streetwear culture? Send us your photos and a brief story, we'll post them and once a month take a viewer vote on the best style and story.

Nike Air Max 1 White/Electric Green-Pink

As of late I have really been liking the old school Air Max 1, I'm sure its because Nike has been releasing new colorways like ex-cons from the over crowded penal system. With the release of these watermelon  wonders, Nike is just in time for the summer.

A perfect combination of  gray suede on the upper top half compliments the electric green that wraps the base. Pink accents the tongue, forefoot, and eyelets, as well as the inside liner. To cap it all off, white mesh is added for the comfort  Air Max are known for. Look for these to drop soon, check back for more updates.

Reality Studio x Onitsuka Tiger Fabre Light RS

The Tiger brand is really starting to come along. I've seen a few dope concepts from them but none this fly. The guys Tiger decided to enlist the help of Berlin based Reality Studio, and the out come, the Fabre Light RS. An innovative design meshing the streetwear genera with an Indian moccasin feel. Everything about this shoe screams "CREATIVITY", from the aforementioned frays, to the half heal backs. However, perhaps what makes these so fresh is the simplicity of the colorway, clashing with a space age edge of a design in a great bang of style. Color wise the entire shoe is cream, save for the red insole and capped off by brass buttons on the top eyelets. Look for these to hit Tiger retailers very soon.

Nike 6.0 Zoom Oncore 2

I will admit, I'm a dunk guy myself , but I will make an exception for these. Leave it to Nike to never disappoint. The Nike 6.0 is designed with off-the-charts style and comfort in a first-rate fit.  Featuring  Leather and synthetic upper with overlay construction for increased durability. Phylon midsole with visible Air Zoom unit for cushioning and protection. Rubber outsole with tread pattern for increased grip and durability. The 6.0 comes in mid top and high, as well as several nice colorways. Not to mention, EBTM has just gotten a few more colorways in. Stop by and check em out.

Good Wood Wooden Jewelery

Good Wood introduces there line of, you guessed it, wooden jewelery. The thing is, it' pretty nice. No, seriously, this just might revolutionize jewelery in the hood. No more fakin it till you make it with costume gold or platinum, because these guys have managed to make wood fly. Don't get me wrong, at first glance you might think that it's a bit pricey for a piece of wood (as some pieces can run you $50 or more) but trust me it's worth it. The conversation starting factor alone should be enough to sway you into these things, and tonight, at 12 midnight (April 14th) the Good Wood ‘Black’ Jesus Piece will re-release online at Good Wood’s online store. The piece will be available from April 14th until April 16th, if you missed out on it the first time, do not sleep again for all other wood types in this style are already SOLD OUT.

When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong: Busted w/ Fake Drugs in a Video

Remember Dave Chappelle's When Keepin It Real Goes Wrong? This would be a perfect example LOL. This guy in Iowa does a music video featuring coke and guns, and apparently does a good job of getting it seen. Too good of job it turns out. The cops end up watching it and decides to violate the guys parole LMFAO. The guy's mother goes on record to say" the drugs were fake and my son knows nothing about the street life". Ether way it's a pretty bad look for this would be rapper, guess that's what you get for dopeboy rapping in small town Iowa. LOL!!!

Lupe Fiasco 10 Minute Acapella Freestyle Live On Stage!

I hadn't found out what city this was in yet, but Lupe had the crowd going crazy. He goes into an almost 10 min. freestyle acapella. Can't wait for L.A.S.E.R. S. to drop.

Tom Foolery Vol.1

This is the start of a new section of the Green Room, one in which I'll be dropping once a week. Tom Foolery is a highlight of the truly stupid shit that comes out of some folks mouths, are portray by their actions. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm as hang loose as they come. Anyone that knows me personally will tell you I'm  not up tight in any fashion. With that being said, I hate ignorant people. It really erks me to see people show just how fuckin stupid they can actually be in this day and age. Sometimes it's funny, in which case the video will express that. But sometimes, more like most times, it's just sad.

In this first edition, I present, "Three Dumb Broads". Who knows where these chicks get the gall to make some of the accusations that they do, but none the less. It is pretty funny when the one talked about getting muffed by Travis Porter. I gotta find that video, I will defiantly post it.

Dope T-Shirt Review

With spring in full swing and summer on the way, it's about time to stock up on a new batch of fresh t-shirts. It's really difficult to be brand loyal when it comes to tees, I mean any artistically inspired mind could potentially churn out a nice t-shirt design (I should see my Joe Rocken Line). So every once in a while, I'll be highlighting some of my favorites.
